Zuni's World

A place for friends and family to catch up and leave messages of love and encouragement about this woman's journey.

Feb. 16, 2010

Zuni is progressing in her recovery. She underwent further chemo over the past couple of months after surgery, and then recently developed pneumonia, from which she is now recovering. She is in good spirits, and her courage and determination are unwavering, although she has some days that are less comfortable than others. She is looking forward to returning to work soon, and we can’t wait to get her back in-we miss her so!

Great news- Surgery was a success!

Well, our dear Zuni had surgery yesterday, and seems to have come thru with flying colors! Half of one lung was removed, and the Dr.’s seem confident all cancer has been removed. In fact, they did a pet scan just days before the surgery and the tumor appeared to be completely eradicated ! What a miracle for our girl-she is absolutely being watched over and blessed. She has some healing to do but is now on the road to being her old self again- words can not suffice to express our happiness at this great outcome.

Hello friends of Zuni,

On November 2 nd Zuni will have another pet scan and then surgery on November 6 th.  Although they might need to remove part of her lung, Zuni is very optimistic. This week she actually feels much better, although she still is in pain, but the pain is getting less.

Please keep up with your prayers and good wishes.

Zuni , you will be just fine.

Hello to all from Zuni

Thanks to all of you for your encouraging notes and prayers,  Love, Zuni

Medical update-Great News !

Hello to all of Zuni’s supporters ! Well, there was some great news this week ! Zuni went to the Dr. because of some pain. In doing a CT scan to look for the cause of the pain,  the Dr. found that her tumor has shrunk significantlyand is now approx. ONE HALF it’s original size, and there are far fewer cancer cells than before !  They will be trying to schedule a surgery for sometime in November to remove the tumor!!!

This is unbelievably GREAT news, and we can only imagine how it lifted Zuni and Charles’ heart and hope

Dear friends of Zuni,

this week Zuni will receive her last treatments, 3 Chemo’s and 5 Radiation treatments.

She is very tired all the time, can’t talk very much, but her spirit is still up.

In 4 weeks she will have another CT scan and the doctors can see then the outcome of the treatments, and go from there.

The next weeks will be very tough on her, since she is already weakened by the treatments and now getting 3 more Chemo’s.

Hang in there Zuni, we are all praying for you.

Zuni’s pain in the esophagus area has not gotten better, she still has a hard time drinking and eating.

Last Friday Zuni was dehydrated so she spent the day  in the hospital, since they needed to give her fluids. Tomorrow she will be in the hospital again to receive fluids. The doctors need to make sure Zuni is in good shape for her last round of Chemo next week.

We love you Zuni and send you our strength.

This week our Zuni is not doing so well.

The Radiation treatment is affecting her esophagus, which causes Zuni pain and difficulty swallowing. The doctors decided to give Zuni morphine for the pain.

Our girl is a trooper and will overcome this too.

Hang in there Zuni , we all are  praying with you.

A Rocky Mt. “Hi!”

Hi Zuni- Sorry, that is such a bad pun, but I couldn’t resist it. I am travelling Colorado this week. One of my first extensive visits since we left here in 89 ( yikes!) and I had lost the memory of how beautiful it is here. I have practically driven from one end of the state to the other in 2 days! Perfect weather, and the sunsets are amazing. The only time we see sunsets with this much color in Calif. is when there is a raging fire burning ( sad but true). So I am thinking that when you and Charles plan your trip to Calif.’s famous “Casa de Cox” you should come by way of I-15 west. It will be worth it.

I hope you are getting over the most recent round of chemo, and are feeling better. I miss your voice.  Think of you alot.  Know you are getting better each day.

Much love- Gretchen
